Pella, Iowa & The Amana Colonies

Discover the rich tradition and culture of these two unique establishments nestled in the heart of Iowa!

Day 1 – Departure from Grand Island with rolls and juice served onboard the motor coach.  Lunch stop (on own) at Jordan Creek Mall, Des Moines.  This afternoon arrive in Pella, IA where in 1847 a company of immigrants from the Netherlands settled in Marion County and made their new home.  Enjoy a guided tour of the Vermeer Mill and the village with quaint shops, bakeries, meat and cheese markets and numerous coffee shops.  Supper included this evening and will be a “Dutch Experience” at Central College.  Overnight at Baymont by Wyndham in Pella.

Day 2– Following breakfast at the hotel we will depart for the Amana Colonies “Seven Little Villages, One Big German Heritage”.  Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965, the Amana Colonies attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, all of whom come to see and enjoy a place where the past is cherished and where hospitality is a way of life.  We will meet our step-on guide this morning for our first stop and a video at the Amana Heritage Museum and the Communal Kitchen Museum followed by a German family style meal at the Homestead Welfare Club.  After lunch, walk across the street to experience the Homestead Village Church Museum and then load the coach for a trip to the High Amana General Store.  At the conclusion of our tour, we will check in to the beautifully restored Hotel Millwright and you will have some free time to browse the over 40 specialty food and gift shops or relax and enjoy a locally crafted beer or glass of wine.  This evening we will gather for a fabulous meal at the Hotel Millwright and the rest of the evening is at your leisure.

Day 3– Breakfast included at the hotel before departing for home with wonderful memories and stories of our visit to Pella and The Amana Colonies.
