Itinerary
Sunday, June 11th – Depart this morning from Grand Island with continental breakfast served onboard the motor coach. Our first stop today will at the Golden Spike Tower in North Platte. From the top of the tower experience Bailey Yard, the world’s largest classification yard. 17 receiving and 16 departure tracks sort 14,000 cars every 24 hours and prepare 139 trains for their destinations across the country. Lunch today (on your own) at Grandma Max’s in Big Springs. This afternoon relax and enjoy the scenery as we travel to our home for this evening at The Academy Hotel in Colorado Springs. Dinner buffet included tonight.
Monday, June 12th – Following breakfast (included) we will depart for the Colorado Prison Museum in Canon City. “Do some time” in the historical cell house that was the original Women’s Correctional Facility constructed in 1935. From there its on to board our train for a journey through the bottom of the Royal Gorge. Have your camera ready for some breath-taking shots and wave at the kayakers as we travel along the Colorado River and under the Royal Gorge Bridge. A voucher for lunch aboard the train will be provided. Following our ride we will depart for Alamosa and our overnight stay at The Hampton Inn & Suites. Dinner included this evening.
Tuesday, June 13th – Breakfast included this morning. Today you will enjoy an all-day ride on the Cumbres Toltec Scenic Railway. Departure will be from Antonito, with a lunch stop at Osier Pass before returning to Antonito later in the afternoon. Enjoy the scenic mountain vistas and keep an eye out for wildlife as we travel the narrow gauge railway today! Dinner is included tonight before departing for Colorado Springs. Overnight at The Academy Hotel, Colorado Springs.
Wednesday, June 14th – Following an included breakfast at the hotel this morning we will explore the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum. See exhibits and stories of days gone by at this fascinating historical museum. We will stop for lunch (on your own) on our way to the Pikes Peak Cog Railway in Manitou Springs. This 3 hour roundtrip ride will take us to the top of Pikes Peak for spectacular views and photo opportunities. Be sure to bring your jacket as the weather can change quite a lot in over 14,000 feet! Tonight you will be treated to a wonderful plated meal and entertainment at our own private Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Show. You may even become part of the mystery! Overnight at The Academy Hotel, Colorado Springs.
Thursday, June 15th – We will depart for home today following breakfast (included) at the hotel. There will be comfort stops along the way and we will enjoy lunch (included) at Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse in Paxton.
