William “Bill” Samuels Sr., purchased the distillery for $35,000 in 1953.  Production began in 1954, and the first run was bottled in 1958 under the brand’s squarish bottles and dipped red wax seal.  This afternoon visit Shaker Village, a restored early 1800’s Shaker religious community.  Later arrive in Lexington for a 3-night stay and enjoy the evening at leisure.  The second-largest city in Kentucky, Lexington is known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” and is the heart of the state’s Blue Grass region.
