Day 1:  Flight to Louisville, KY

Arrive in Louisville and transfer to your hotel for a two-night stay.  Named after King Louis XVI of France, Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark, making it one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachians.  Kentucky is known as the “Bluegrass State” based on the fact that bluegrass is found in many of the lawns and pastures throughout the state.

Day 2:  Louisville

This morning enjoy a Louisville City tour.  Start by visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum, celebrating the tradition and history of the world-renowned Kentucky Derby.  Enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits, a guided historic walking tour at Churchill Downs Racetrack, and get your heart racing by watching the Museum’s signature movie, “The Greatest Race”.  Later visit the Muhammad Ali Center dedicated to the famed boxer’s life and philosophic principles.  The Center’s museum captures the inspiration derived from the story of Muhammad Ali’s incredible life and the six core principles that fueled his journey.  Later visit the Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat Factory and Museum.  J.F. Hillerich opened his woodworking shop in Louisville in 1855.  According to company legend, the first pro bat was created for Pete Browning in 1884, whose nickname was, “The Louisville Slugger.”  Tonight’s Welcome Dinner is at the Derby Dinner Playhouse, opened in 1974, the dinner theatre experience features classic American cuisine and a production of a Broadway musical or lighthearted comedy.

Day 3:  Louisville-Bardstown-Lexington

Travel south to Bardstown and visit the famous “My Old Kentucky Home” State Park featuring a restored 1795 farm & Federal style mansion commissioned by John Rowan Sr. completed in 1818.  It was here that Steven Foster wrote the state song of the same name.  Later, stop in Loretta for a bourbon tour & tasting at famed Maker’s Mark Distillery.  T. William “Bill” Samuels Sr., purchased the distillery for $35,000 in 1953.  Production began in 1954, and the first run was bottled in 1958 under the brand’s squarish bottles and dipped red wax seal.  This afternoon visit Shaker Village, a restored early 1800’s Shaker religious community.  Later arrive in Lexington for a 3-night stay and enjoy the evening at leisure.  The second-largest city in Kentucky, Lexington is known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” and is the heart of the state’s Blue Grass region.

Day 4:  Lexington Sightseeing

Today enjoy the scenic bluegrass of Lexington’s horse country through rolling hills, past the white fences and family horse farms.  Visit the Kentucky Horse Park, a working horse farm & the world’s only park dedicated to man’s relationship with the horse.  Tour the Hall of Champions, the International Museum of the Horse and see the Parade of Breeds.  Later visit Ashland, the plantation home of the statesman Henry Clay.  Clay was called ‘the Great Compromiser’ because he played a major role in formulation the three landmark sectional compromises of his day:  the Missouri Compromise of 1820, the Tariff Compromise of 1833 and the Compromise of 1850.  Enjoy dinner tonight at a popular local restaurant in the Lexington area.

Day 5:  Lexington-Ark Encounter-Lexington

This morning drive north of Williamstown to see the life-size replica of Noah’s Ark, Ark encounter, the largest timber frame structure in the world which opened in 2016 and was built to the dimensions given in the Bible.  Built in part by Amish craftsman, the structure measures 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 51 feet high, and is a modern engineering marvel featuring 3 decks of exhibits.  Later travel to Georgetown to visit the Toyota Auto Plant for an up-close look at what it takes to build a car.  The plant is home of the Camry & Avalon, and is Toyota’s first wholly-owned American vehicle plant and its largest in the world.  Lexington loves its steak so tonight join your fellow travelers for a Farewell Dinner at one of Lexington’s famous local steakhouses.

Day 6:  Lexington – Louisville – Flight Home

Today transfer to Louisville for your flight home filled with wonderful memories of your travel experience to Kentucky.
